BallHype: hype it up!

Ok, so with the season winding down I am going to make some predictions of the NBA awards…

MVP

LeBron James, I think LeBron will win the MVP this season, he has the Cavs sitting pretty on top of the East currently 4 games ahead of Boston.  He is averaging 28 pts, 7 rebs, 7 ast, almost 2 steals and 1.3 bpg. He has been a great leader and has hit so many clutch shots this season and is one of the players in the 4th quarter averaging about 7 ppg in the 4th.

Rookie of the Year

Derrick Rose,  I think Rose deserves ROY this season, he has been fairly consistent and is averaging 16.5 ppg and 6 ppg, he certainly has not disappointed this season. He has the Bulls in 8th seed in the East to date with a 1 game lead over the Bucks. He’s also elevated the play of his teammates especially Ben Gordon and Joakim Noah.

Defensive Player of the Year

Dwight Howard, Dwight’s been a monster this season, he is averaging 14 rpg, 3 bpg and 0.9 steals per game, he’s a shot blocker and a shot changer and not many players would hurry into the paint aka Dwight’s House.

Most Improved Player

Nate Robinson, yep Kryptonate! He has been an absolute spark off the bench for NY and will be sure to get some votes for 6th man of the year as well. Every stat of Nate’s has gone up and he’s only played 4 more mpg than last season. He’s averaging 18 ppg compared to 12.7 last season, his assists have gone up from 2.9 to 4.1, he’s averaging 1 more rpg 4.1, he’s averaging 1.4 spg up from .9 last season

Coach of the Year

Stan Van Gundy, I think  Stan’s one of the best coaches in the NBA, and just like Dwight and Jameer have become better players, he’s become a better coach. He has the Magic in 3rd seed currently and just 1 game out of 2nd seed.

6th Man of the Year

Jason Terry, Jet has been a real sparkplug off the bench for Dallas this season averaging (to date) 19.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 3.6 apg along with 1.4 spg in 33 mpg. He will be a key piece of the Mavs team if they are going to go anywhere in the playoffs.

    Coach of the year

Sure SVG has improved but i don’t like his style the magic could be much better he calls them out publicly all the time and I’m not sure his players like him. The magic have the best post player in the game currently in Dwight Howard yet they hardly get him involved…name a post player that can guard Dwight? still the magic live and die by the 3 ball which is fine when its going in but i don’t see them going far in the crunch games of the playoffs unless they get Dwight involved more…. especially down the stretch

My pick for Coach of the year is Mike Brown (call me biased)

He gets overlooked for having the best player in the league on his team but what this team has done can not be all attributed to LeBron Mike Brown always has his team playing great D and this year is no exception the cavs are currently the number one defensive team in the league the team has also improved greatly on the offensive end from 24th in ppg to 12th were 1st before injury’s to key players but even then he had his rotations worked out very well and the cavaliers continued there winning ways sometimes without 3 starters. The cavs pts differential is first in the league (+8.4) up from -0.4 (the 2nd lowest of any playoff team) This year he had his first All star appearance as coach of the eastern all stars and the cavaliers with 14 games left in their season already have 10 more wins than their total for last season.

The cavaliers are much improved from last season Mike brown deserves a lot of the credit.

Has Nate Robinson really improved much? He’s still the same short guy that shoots a lot of shots at a decent percentage, which he did last year as well. He’s been a beneficiary of D’Antoni’s system, which many people have benefited from. I don’t think he’s much of a different player. I’d have Harris as MIP (call me bias). he’s gone from an average PG to a top 4 PG in the NBA. he’s arguably the best scoring PG in the game, while dishing out 7 assists. he shoots a solid percentage fron the field and leads the league in FG makes per game as a PG. Yep, more than LeBron and Kobe and Wade.

Good morning…I think Devin Harris may have an edge over Nate Robinson.
Well Shaquille O’Neal certainly doesn’t like Stan Van Gundy; I think there’s a tight race between Phil Jackson, Mike Brown, and SVG. I think people have taken Phil Jackson for granted lately because of the talent he has, his notoriety for playing games with officials and players psychologically, his long track record of greatness and resulting high expectations, and the whole drama behind the Lakers’ humiliation in the Finals and seemingly revenge motivated resurgence – but he’s once again put forth arguably the greatest offensive system in the NBA and the most feared team in the NBA, without breaking a sweat; this guy is making the late Red Auerbach a relic. Unfortunately Doc Rivers has allowed his team to play out of control at times and has been getting mixed up with the league officials too much to merit the honor.
Want to consider Yao Ming, Tim Duncan, Deron Williams, Dirk Nowitski, or Paul Pierce for All-NBA?

I was going to but I couldn’t put any of them over the guys in the 1st team but they’d probably be on the 2nd team

@teee I was considering Harris but I think he also really improved last year

  5. teee13 Says:

I dont think Harris improved much last year, he certainly didnt improve much in the transition from Dallas-New Jersey, and he still was a very average, young PG before this year. He wasn’t much of an offensive threat unless he was running and gunning, and would have been a back up on a lot of teams. Now he’s a superstar. Nate Robinson was a 6th man before this year, and even now with D’Antoni’s style, he is a 6th man now.

  6. Deejay Says:

I think Harris benefits from being on a bad team with very few offensive options

  7. teee13 Says:

Carter and Lopez arent offensive options? Dont forget hes averaging 7 assists per game.

  8. NBAfool3 Says:

when you go from fourth option to basically tied for first your bound to improve.

    Chris Duhon for M.I.P.

  9. teee13 Says:

So if he was still playing like the 4th option he was last year, you think he’d be getting the stats hes getting? Have you watched ANY nets games this year? have you seen how his game has evolved from last year? I doubt it. Cuz if u have, you’d know it’s not just his role that’s increased. U dont go from the 4th option to the 1st option if you havent improved…. harris couldnt take anybody decent on defense off the dribble last year. Now he’s the best driving PG in the league.

  10. teee13 Says:

BTW, duhon is averaging a measly 9/6 since 1/31. Hes obviously not too consistant.
