LeBron James wins the 2009 NBA MVP award
Fantastic. Great. Good for him.
Of course… It’s that time of the year again. Now is actually the time to start getting excited. This year, the NBA MVP award business is announced. LeBron James is the winner. Let’s throw a party. Seriously, lets all get together on the internet and start talking about this event like Jesus himself is at the ceremony. Everybody and their mom get your twitter engines running (I’m @binarybball btw). Start celebrating loud and often!
Because I’m sure you can’t tell, absolutely none of the previous paragraph reflected true emotion I feel about the recent news. LeBron getting his MVP award was innevitable. Nothing about this year suggested it would be anything other than a landslide.
LeBron will be accepting the award at a press conference located at none other than St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School. Where else would the 2nd youngest MVP winner in history accept an award? It’s not like having press conferences at your old high school is a big deal or anything… Actually, I take that back. I’m being informed that going back to your high school once you have graduated isn’t cool anymore.
Well, I take that back. Err… Again. The lunch menu for St. Vincent St. Mary’s High School looks amazing. On Monday they get Chicken Alfredo. On Tuesday it’s Fried Chicken Salad. They got Philly Cheese on Wednesday, hot subs on Thursday and a special treat on Friday. Friday they get to choose between Buffalo/BBQ Wings or Fried Shrimp. You heard me right. They have Fried Shrimp Friday.
Ok, it seems as though I went off on a tangent. You can’t blame me though. I’m sure half of you are thinking about quitting your jobs and going back to high school right about now. Don’t go and do something crazy like that. Seriously. I’ll look into it and if it’s even possible I’ll let you all know and then you can quit your jobs. Maybe we could even form our own Club. Alight, my fun is over. Back to LeBron’s big fancy MVP award.
One of our faithful contributors was kind enough to cover how the 2009 MVP award should be judged. He didn’t even write a single paragraph about a lunch menu either. That must have taken some restraint.
My point is that the MVP award is overhyped. It’s overplayed. The mere existence of questioning how the award should be won suggests some very faulty logic behind the previous winners. I’ve written extensively on this topic before but haven’t yet covered it since the reintroduction of the Binary Basketball Blog. Because of the route we chose, we lost all the previous data. Too bad. I’m not getting into it right now.
However, a few contributors have covered some related articles in which you might also enjoy.

Good on him.
He deserved it. Played well all season and so did the Cavs.
