When the NBA world found out that the Celtics heart and soul Kevin Garnett was probably out for the whole playoffs, everyone thought the Celtics were in big trouble. Then when Leon Powe also went down, everyone thought the Celtics were done. Now Glen Davis has been the starter and was fairly inexperienced in playoff basketball. The Celtics weren’t really expected to do this well but the emergence of Glen ‘Big Baby‘ Davis has been a real revelation for the Celtics. He has hit some clutch shots and has really helped out Boston in these playoffs. Davis is averaging 17.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.4 apg and 1.3 spg so far these playoffs in just over 40 mpg.
The emergence of Glen Davis began when he attended Louisiana State University (LSU) for 3 years (2004-2007) and averaged 16.7 ppg for the Tigers. Davis then chose to enter the NBA draft and slipped to the 2nd round and was picked 35th overall by the Seattle Supersonics. But he didn’t play a single game for Seattle because he was quickly traded to the Celtics along with Ray Allen for Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and rights to the 5th draft pick which ended up being Jeff Green from Georgetown University.
Glen Davis got his first start for the Celtics when Center Kendrick Perkins was injured, Davis got 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Few people know that Glen Davis played Running Back in High School, what a scary sight that would’ve been having a 6 foot 9, 289 pound guy running at you!
Let’s hope Big Baby can keep having a great playoffs series for Boston and he’ll need to if the Celtics are going to beat the Orlando Magic in the Conference Semi’s.
