BallHype: hype it up!

The LA Times reports that Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson will return to LA again next season. Many thought, myself included, that if Phil Jackson were to win a ring with the Lakers and stand alone as the NBA coach with the most championships he would retire. Well, I was wrong and so are you. Phil Jackson will return to LA to coach the Los Angeles Lakers again next season reports the LA Times.

With the news of Ron Artest joining the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s difficult to imagine any legitimate contender being able to challenge them again. Well, the Magic did get better and so did the Cavaliers. I think the goal is for the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers to beat each other up in the Eastern Conference Finals enough so that a fully rested Lakers squad ran by the zen master himself could take over whichever Eastern foe it must face.

Unfortunately for Phil Jackson and the Lakers, Trevor Ariza has agreed to sign with the Rockets. Both Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza are free agents so this did not involve a trade with the Houston Rockets.

Phil Jackson has won 12 championships in his NBA career. He won 2 championship rings as a player in 1970 and 1973 and he won 10 as a coach in 1991-1993, 1996-1998, 2000-2002, and 2009. Previously, analysts and commentators would frequently say the San Antonio Spurs liked to win their championships every other year. It seems they may now be saying that Phil Jackson likes to win his championships in sets of 3.
