Artest to Sign with Lakers

Ron Artest has told Ken Berger of CBSSports.com that he will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I'm definitely going to L.A. -- to sign, yeah," Artest said in a phone interview. "Lakers, Lakers, Lakers. I'm in L.A. right now."

He went on to later say:

"I don't really care about the money," Artest said. "I'll play there for nothing. ... L.A. was very interested in me, and they got me."

Free agent Ron Artest has agreed to sign with the Lakers. Don't have many more details, but his agent said he would have a more formal announcement later this afternoon.

This according to the LA Daily News.

They could sign him even if he didnt sign for the MLE. It was said they could afford giving Odom 10 mil per year, so in that case they could sign Artest.

this is one of those high risk high reward things. artest is an upgrade over ariza bout offensively and defensively. i think that kobe and phil can keep him in check. as long as he doesn't take stupid shots, we're good. and i highly doubt odom ain't coming back

Getting Artest for the MLE is huge. It's good to see though, that a player is willing to take a pay cut just to play on a better team. I actually like Artest more now because of that move.

Ariza gone and possibly Odom out of the Lakers and the Lakers sign up Artest. Losing 2 gaining 1. Can be ok, but i think Odom was a big key factor in the playoffs and in many of the games for the Lakers. He creates that matchup problem and he's just so super active.
